We are a predominately Africans-American Catholic parish on Atlanta's Westside in the Archdiocese of Atlanta of the Congregation of the Passionists. Some reasons to visit our special church to celebrate holy mass with us.

#1 - Black Catholic Parish St. Paul of the Cross is one of seven Black Catholic Parishes in Atlanta. In art, we remember the African saints.

#2 - African-American Music. We sing from the Lead Me, Guide Me, the African-American Catholic Hymnal, a collection of music of African-American heritage and Catholic faith. In April 1983, the National Black Catholic Clergy Caucus and its then president, Fr. Donald Clark, authorized the work on this hymnal.

#3 - Adult Choir. Our adult choir adds more charisma to our 11:30 mass than what most people would expect from a Roman Catholic mass.

#4 - African Families. We are home to many families that have recently emigrated from the African countries.

#5 - Children's Bulletin. It is a Catholic tradition to give parishioners a "bulletin" after mass. This bulletin lists all the news of the parish. Well, at St. Paul of the Cross, we have improved the concept. We also provide "Children's Bulletin." It is a paper sheet of games that reinforce the doctrines of faith.

#6 - Calling all Teenagers. One of the programs of the Life Teen ministry is a catechism class from 10 AM to 11:30 AM Teenagers-led Mass is celebrated on the third Saturday of the month.

#7 - Are you a young adult in your 20s and 30s? We are part of the archdiocese's Young Adult Ministry, visit www.YAM.org and ask an usher to introduce you to a young adult after the Holy Mass.

#8 - Baby Chapel. A room in the back of the church is reserved for parents and their joyful babies.

#9 - Breakfast. Breakfast is usually provided after the 8:30 mass in the Spiritual Center. One of the ministries organizes breakfast on a rotating basis.

#10 - Bible Study. Bible Study for adults begins at 10:00 every Sunday.

#11 - West Side of Atlanta. If you live near Exit #12, Donald Lee Hollowell (formerly Bankhead), off I-285, we are your parish.

#12 - Learn the Faith with Pamphlets. We sell books and give away pamphlets for free from a book rack in the back of the church.

#13 - "Feed My Sheep." John 21:17 Parishioners donate food items for the poor via the St. Vincent de Paul Society food donation box at church entrance.

#14 - The Passion in stained glass windows. One of the vows of the Passionists, is to preach The Passion. See the events of the Passion of Christ in our stained glass windows.

#15 - The Passion Play. On Good Friday and Palm Sunday, we dramatize the Passion at the reading of the Gospel. On Palm Sunday, we use real live farm animals. The kids love it!!!

#16 - Pray at the foot of the Crucifixion. Place your mind at the foot of the Crucifixion and pray. Our crucifix is a life-size version of the Crucifixion, and like all Catholic churches, it is front and center, as a constant reminder of the sacrifice of Christ Jesus to humanity.

#17 - Pray with the Queen of Heaven and the saints in Heaven. If you have a special devotion, pray in our chapels in honor of The Blessed Mother and St. Joseph. Honor thy Mother and thy Father.

#18 - Spanish Parish. Religious Education provided and 2 music bands during Holy Mass.

 #19 - First Friday and Saturday Devotion. Eucharist Adoration begins after morning Holy Mass on First Friday. First Saturday Devotion - Fatima Devotion - 9:00 AM

Important Note to Directions: I-20 and I-285 intersect on both the east side and the west side of Atlanta. We are located on the WEST SIDE of Atlanta. If you are coming from the east side of Atlanta, you need to drive on I-20 westbound to Exit #51B. Note: In 1999, the Perimeter expressway exit numbers were changed.

As of 2004, the Archdiocese of Atlanta is composed of over 100,000 families in over 100 parishes and missions, covering 69 counties. The St. Paul of the Cross parish is composed of about 600 registered families.

The Passionists - May The Passion of Jesus Christ Be Ever in Our Hearts.  The Passionists are dedicated to the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ. Passionists live and preach the message of the Cross, through preaching missions, in retreat centers, parishes and overseas, in military and hospital chaplaincies and through the media. In addition to the ordinary priestly vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, all Passionists clergy (priests and nuns) take the vow to preach the gospel of the Passion of Jesus Christ. Paul Francis Danei (1694-1775) of Italy founded the Passionist order of priests in 1746. He was canonized by Pope Pius IX in 1867.
